INFORMATION ABOUT THE BREED

.

History of the Breed

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a relatively new breed with a very interesting history . . .

Breed Standard

The Breed Standard is a document approved by the parent club (RRCUS) that describes the ideal Ridgeback.  Reputable breeders try to produce puppies that adhere to the Breed Standard as closely as possible.

Health

Overall, Rhodesian Ridgebacks are a fairly healthy breed.   This page describes some of the more common health conditions seen in the breed.

Temperament

Traditionally, Ridgebacks have been expected to be "aloof with strangers"; this temperament may be changing as the breed becomes more popular and adapts to living in our homes as a pet...

RRCUS Code of Ethics

The RRCUS Code of Ethics describes the behaviors of a reputable, responsible breeder and owner.  Members of RRCUS must abide by these provisions when breeding, selling, and rearing puppies.
